Chapter 32: Undesirable

The doors to the convention had finally opened and crowds of people (mostly women) came in acting like a hectic herd of sheep. I looked over at Shirley who didn’t look surprised at the reaction of them. “Is it like this every year?” I asked as my eyes scanned the area around us trying to find at least one person who was more or less calm. “Yes. That’s the party planning business for you” Shirley answered calmly as she smiled at 4 women who looked like they were coming over towards our stall. “It a first come first served policy and when a bride wants something she’ll try to get it no matter what it takes” Shirley told me. The 5 woman stopped up by our stall and looked up at us. We welcomed them and I gave them all a pamphlet with an overlook over all the things that we offered. “My wedding is next June” the blonde haired woman at the right said. “Oh, a summer wedding well that’s always nice” Shirley said as she walked over to a part of our stall with all the summer themed products and party overviews. “Let me show you this then” Shirley said as she gestured for the blonde haired woman to come and join her. I was left behind together with the 4 other woman who just looked at me as if I was part of some kind of museum exhibition. “Are any of you getting married?” I asked realizing that it the answer was quite, if not very, obvious. They all nodded as I had expected. “When are you having the wedding?” I asked trying to be a good representative for the company. “Mine is in 3 weeks so everything is ready for the big day but Abby and Madeleine are getting married in August” the red haired woman with glasses told me as she pointed over to two of the other women who had to be Abby and Madeleine. I nodded waiting for them to tell me something that would aid me to find products that would be suitable for their weddings. Finally after a long pause in the conversation Shirley came back with the soon to be bride who looked very excited. “Girls, I think we found the perfect venue and decorations for Catharina” Shirley exclaimed revealing the name of the woman who she’d helped. “The theme is inspired by Hollywood at its best!” Catharina continued as she shared a few hugs with the rest of her friends. It felt a bit like a cliché American chick flick only the accents were different.

I smiled at the 4 women left the stall. “How do you do this?” I asked Shirley with a sigh. “Do what? Party planning?” She asked. Two women ran past the stall faster than the speed of light and stopped over by some stall selling handbags and I couldn’t help but laugh. “You’ll get used to it.” Shirley assured me. I giggled. “But really. How can you just be so charismatic and confident around total strangers? How do you know what they’ll like?” I continued hoping to not be interrupted by more ferocious woman fighting over bags. Shirley looked down at the table as she rearranged some brochures. “It’s my life. I suppose when you’re passionate for something and you really want to succeed then anything is possible.” Shirley replied as she tucked some hair behind her ear. I nodded and thought a bit about what had just come out of her mouth. “I wish I was as determined as you.” I told Shirley. “Kiara, you’re young, beautiful and very talented. When time comes to apply to Uni again then go for it and I’m sure you’ll get to fulfill your dreams.” Shirley told me. But how could she know? Nothing was certain? But maybe that was what kept me from fulfilling my dreams. I was just too damn scared.

After around 5 hours everybody had left except us and a few other stalls. I watched at Shirley went over to one of her other friends to chat for a bit. I had already packed everything down so I was sitting on a chair staring out into open air. However, my thoughts were interrupted by a phone call from Zayn. “Zayn!” I practically screamed. “Hey, babe. Am I interrupting?” He asked. I closed my eyes and enjoyed his voice. “Nope, just done with the convention. How is Sweden?” I asked. “Fine, but we’re coming home tomorrow already. Its crazeh up here” He stated with his Bradford accent. “Wow, so we’ll see each other soon then, eh?”  I asked. “Mhm, I’m hoping that you might be able to come greet me at the airport?” Zayn asked sound a bit shy. “I’ll be there with a cup of tea” I said jokingly. I heard Zayn’s laugh followed by a short silence. “Kiara babe, I have to get going now, miss you and remember that I’ll always love you.” He told me. “Ditto, love you more. See you tomorrow then!” I exclaimed before hanging up. I put my phone in my pocket and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach increase by the second. I was going to see Zayn tomorrow. It hadn’t been that long but I’d missed him like crazy.

On the way home I realized that Zayn probably hadn’t seen our picture in the news. Was it wrong of me not to tell him? I’d have to tell him some day unless he found out about it by himself. Maybe everything was going to be over by tomorrow? My dad always told me that the media quickly get tired which is why famous people cause so much drama so maybe if I just ignored it they’d go away and find someone else to annoy.

I’ll try to post it soon, but I’m quite busy so it’ll be hard :) xx

Chapter 31: Undesirable

The night wasn’t that bad after all. Callie and I had spent half of the time talking whilst the guys had gotten a bit closer as well. When we left I even saw James and Zayn shake hands. Nothing particular happened after we parted. Zayn went home with me but didn’t sleep over because he had work the day after. He and the lads were going to Sweden to record some new songs. I wouldn’t be able to see him for a good 10 days.

I was at work, it was Monday, and there were absolutely no customers whatsoever. I was placing some new products on the shelves when Shirley came in with two cups of tea. “There we go” She said as she placed one of them in front of me. The steam rose up slowly as I took it up in my hand. I took a sip of the warm brew as I looked over towards Shirley. “So how was your weekend?” She asked. I put down my cup. “It was quite odd actually.” I told her skipping the details. Shirley smiled. “I saw you” She said. I looked her at her and raised my eyebrows. “Were you at the sushi restaurant or the bar?” I asked her. She shook her head. “I have a secret addiction to gossip magazines and this morning I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw your pretty face with that boy band member” Shirley told me taking yet another sip of her tea. I didn’t understand it. I hadn’t seen any paparazzi for the whole evening, let alone any crazed fans. Would this affect our relationship? I had heard about all the hate that friends and especially rumoured girlfriends of One Direction had received.

“So you two are together?” Shirley asked. I couldn’t help but smile. “I suppose so. He’s lovely” I said. “What’s his name again?”  Shirley asked me sounding very intrigued. “Zayn” I replied. Zayn had never mentioned if I was allowed to tell anybody about our relationship. Or had he? I couldn’t remember but a name wouldn’t hurt, would it? “That’s right, Zayn” Shirley said to herself. “Right, but we have no time to chat, the convention is in 3 hours” Shirley concluded as she took my cup away from me and walked back upstairs to get her bag.

It was the yearly Bridal convention and Shirley had been invited to set up a stall where she could sell all the appropriate products. I rushed out to get my jacket. The car had already been filled with boxes in the morning so we simply just drove off. Surprisingly enough, there was barely any traffic so we quickly arrived at the centre where the convention was going to be held. There were already a lot of people standing by their own stalls and I struggled to carry all the bags and boxes that Shirley had given me. It was only 11 p.m. so we had around 2 hours until the guests would arrive. Shirley was starting to get stressed and she was bossing me around telling me where to put every single small object of décor. “I just need to get over and talk to my colleagues by the beauty booth. You can come if you want to” Shirley offered. “Sounds nice” I said and took my bag. We left our stall and made our way over to the beauty booths. Shirley stopped at an exquisitely decorated booth with silver flowers and scented candles. A woman around Shirley’s age walked over to us and opened her arms. Shirley hugged her. “Molly! It’s been absolute ages” Shirley said. “This is my new colleague, Kiara Miller” Shirley said. I shook Molly’s hand. “Nice to meet you” Molly said in a strong Scottish accent. “Pleasure” I retorted as I smiled politely towards her. “Have I seen you before?” Molly then said sounding quite suspicious. “Well if you’ve read Gossip Now this morning then that’s probably where” Shirley added. “Urm…” I said. I thought that Shirley would’ve kept my relationship with Zayn a secret. “My gosh! You’re that girl who was out with what’s his name again” Molly said. “Zayn” Shirley added. “That’s right. Lucky girl. I see why Zayn picked you” Molly then said. I looked over at Shirley who looked back at me and smiled. It looked like she was aware of how uncomfortable I was with her telling Molly about it but why didn’t she stop then? “You must be famous then” Molly added. “At least everybody that I know reads Gossip Now” Molly told me. I shook my head, “I don’t think so” I said.

I was probably more infamous than I was famous, if I even was anything…If all of Molly’s friends read Gossip Now then how many others had seen the pictures?
